NORC January Monthly Meeting
Thursday, January 19, 2006
SPEAKER:
U.S. Senate Candidate Mike Bouchard
NORC was pleased to welcome Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Michael Bouchard as our guest speaker on Thursday, January 19th.
Bouchard has been Oakland County Sheriff since 1999 and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate. He recently hired the team that defeated former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle in South Dakota.
Bouchard chooses not to speak negatively of his opponents, Jerry Zandstra and Keith Butler, because he feels either would do a good job serving as Michigan’s U.S. senator in place of Debbie Stabenow. Bouchard did point out that Zandstra will have a difficult task of building a strong base in southeast Michigan because he is from the west side of the state. He said that Butler will be relying too much on ticket-splitters in usually strong Democratic voting areas.
Bouchard’s focus is homeland security, the economy, and family issues. Recent national recognition for Sheriff Bouchard includes being named a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the National Sheriff's Association Hurricane Katrina After Action Analysis Team.
